Australia is set to welcome two Chinese immigrants with open arms this December. The immigrants will not have to go through Australian Immigration or apply for an Australian Visa, instead they’ll be whisked straight through to their new home – Adelaide Zoo.

Yes Adelaide Zoo will soon be proudly announcing the arrival of two Pandas from China in December in what is dubbed, a historic event for the two countries.

Wang Wang and Funi will live in a state-of-the-art habitat built with advice from Chinese panda experts. Their enclosure will feature chilled rocks, running cold water, shady areas and air-conditioned indoor areas.

China and Australia have both signed an agreement that will see the arrival of the two Chinese pandas who will be given a home in Adelaide Zoo for ten years, during which time the pandas will provide vital research for the zoo.

Chris West, CEO of Adelaide Zoo and ex CEO of London Zoo, praised the Chinese for entrusting their national treasure with Australia: “The Giant Pandas will be powerful ambassadors for harmony and friendship between our two countries.

West went on to say that Adelaide Zoo had a history of caring for endangered species and therefore made the best choice when it came to rehoming the pandas.

Two of the zoos most experienced keepers will soon be travelling to China to get to know the pandas before their arrival, which is expected to be the 13 December.

The zoo are anticipating a huge crowd of panda tourists after membership rates of the zoo increased rapidly once news of the pandas broke and so the zoo has built a new entrance precinct to cope.

If you want to be in with a chance to see the pandas for yourself, then you must pre-book your ‘Australian’ panda viewing times, sales begin online at 10am on November 1st. Opening hours are every day from 9.30am – 5pm. Find out more by visiting Adelaide Zoo’s website and follow news of the Australian pandas!
