Hugh Jackman as the face of Australia?
Hugh Jackman is a world famous Hollywood star, voted “Sexiest Man Alive” by both People Magazine and Open Salon, he’s been nominated for a Golden Globe award and already has an Emmy under his belt. Now he’s been voted as the most popular face to front Australia’s new tourist campaign.
Tourism representatives were asked by the Morgan Poll who should front the next marketing campaign for Australia. Rather than being given a list to choose from, they were encouraged to come up with their own suggestions.
Top of the list of suggestions was the Australian born actor Hugh Jackman, famous for playing Wolverine and starring in the movie ‘Australia’ with Nicole Kidman. The second most popular choice was an indigenous person, no doubt to reflect Australia’s heritage and origins.
The Poll comes ahead of a Tourism Futures conference to be held on the Gold Coast later this month where industry chiefs will discuss ways in which to revitalise the struggling tourist industry.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics show that visitor numbers were down by 4.7% in June compared to figures last year, with huge reductions in the number of visitors from the Asian continents, such as Japan and China.ÂÂ
Tourism Transport Forum managing director Chris Brown blames this reduction on the outbreak of swine flu: “North Asian countries are especially sensitive to disease outbreaks and that has been demonstrated by these falls,” he said.
Perhaps Hugh Jackman may now adopt a real life superhero role and help save Australia’s flagging tourist industry!

Hugh Jackman?! Hugh Jackman?! Huge Ass Man, I say!
I have two words for you, just two; Paul AND Hogan. That was, technically three words, but my point still stands. I mean, c’mon, Crocodile bloody Dundee! He’s fantastic! He fights crocodiles AND crime! There’s no way Hugh Jackman can do that!
Let’s also not rush to dismiss Dame Edna Everage and Rolf Harris.
