Toast Australia, Sunday 28 June, Clapham Common
Toast Australia is upon us – a whole blissful, sun-soaked (fingers crossed) day of all things Antipodean, in the middle of London.
Now in its 9th year, Toast is the northern hemisphere’s largest celebration of, erm, the southern Hemisphere. It’s all about food, wine and entertainment, with the best of Down Under sport, music and culture bundled in.
The day kicks off with a polo match between Britain and Australia, and after the game you can get some mallet-weilding tips from the masters.
Celebrity Masterchef John Torode will be cooking up a storm, bringing the fresh, fragrant, spicy flavours of Australia to mouthwatering life. Wander the food stalls, too, and get your chompers round barbecued Aussie lamb, Anzac cookies, hokey-pokey ice-cream and plenty more highbrow cuisine as well, showcasing the incredible and diverse fusion cuisine of Oz.
Live act include the Descendance Aboriginal cultural group telling traditional stories through performance (with audience participation for the willing), and the Sneak Sound System – all the way from chart stardom in Sydney, where they recently supported Robbie Williams.
Then there’s the wine. If you don’t know your Chardonnay from your Pinot Gris, the regular wine-tasting workshops will get you merrily familiar.
