Huge mining projects could turn Australia into a superpower in energy production.

Western Australia is set to expand its mining industry even further as new discoveries of gas enable huge drilling projects to get off the ground, creating thousands of new jobs.

Western Australia has enjoyed a boom in recent years; it has always been known as the largest mining state in Australia and hundreds of mining companies operate from the state, the largest two being Rio Tinto and BPH Billiton.

Plans to quadruple Australia’s gas exports are currently underway and could create thousands of new mining jobs that is bound to draw immigrant workers to Western Australia – the state is already on the search for skilled workers to join their mining teams. Historically mining booms have always encouraged immigration to Australia and there is no reason to think that anything will be different this time.

At the moment Western Australia is already the top mining spot for iron ore, gold and other minerals, coal, oil and gas. Gas was only discovered in Australia in 1971 and in 1979 Australia began exporting its valuable resource to the rest of the world. Australia already produces around a quarter of the worlds supplies of Liquefied Natural Gas, with China and India being the biggest importers of Australian energy and minerals.

In October 2009 new gas reserves were discovered in the Carnarvon Basin off the coast of Western Australia. The Chevron Corporation immediately started exploratory drilling and now hopes that the new find will help feed its $43 billion LNG project, named the Gorgon project. If this, along with several other proposed mining projects go ahead, Australia will be set to become a superpower in energy production.

Mining companies are now actively seeking skilled workers and competition amongst companies are pushing up the prices. Find out how you can get your Australian visa to enable you to work and live in Australia and become a part of its success.
