Tasmania
The island of Tasmania is situated 150 miles south of Australia’s south eastern coast. Boasting a wealth of natural parks and World Heritage Sites, Tasmania is an unspoilt environment and stunningly beautiful. This heart-shaped island boasts pristine coastlines, lush verdant valleys and tiny villages, all located on one of the world’s most mountains islands.
Home to some of the cleanest air in the world - thanks to the so-called Roaring Forty winds that bombard the island - 40% of Tasmania is protected and home to some of the world’s rarest animals.

Those looking for a quite, eco-tourism holiday should consider Tasmania, as vast tracts of this beautiful island - which is, incidentally, the same size as Ireland - are uninhabited by humans. Visitors can enjoy deep-sea fishing, abseiling, snorkelling and diving, boating and fishing, wine tasting and scenic flights over the island.
Some of Tasmania’s finest sites include the pink granite mountains of Freycinet Bay National Park, which offers scintillating views over Wineglass Bay, a crescent-shaped beach which boasts some of the whitest sands in the Antipodes. Here you’ll also find the granite outcrops of the Hazards, which you can view while trekking Hazards Beach.
On the Western Wilderness, as it’s known, you’ll find yourself on the edge of the world, as you enter the World Heritage sites of Cradle Mountain and the Franklin and Gordon Rivers. Cradle Mountain is part of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area, and is also the start of a 40-mile overland trek, which takes you through the National parklands. Surrounded by moorland and with the lakes waters lapping at its base, this is some truly stunning landscape.
Heading back to modernisation, the Georgian elegance of Hobart is a must-see, while the Salamanca market on the waterfront truly takes you back in time.
