Australia Holidays

It’s not hard to see why Australia is the number one holiday destination for thousands of us. We Brits tend to value little things like constant sunshine, warm waters, reefs and sandy beaches pretty highly; but an Australia holiday offers so much more – which is probably why many holidaymakers find themselves extending their stay, or coming back for more year after year.

Yes, there are plenty of sunny spots and glorious beaches for sun bathing, surfing, volleyball, snorkelling - but don’t forget the awesome rainforests, majestic snow-capped mountains, eerie deserts, captivating wildlife, undiscovered tracks for walking and biking, crashing rivers begging to be rafted - and that’s just a few ideas for the first week of your perfect Australia holiday!

The best time to visit Australia is obviously as soon as possible; but depending on where you want to go and see, you might want to time your holiday accordingly. Even Tasmania enjoys mild temperatures year-round; but as part of the Southern Hemisphere you’ll enjoy maximum temperatures in Australia during our winter months (think Santa hats on Bondi Beach). So if you’re after some holiday scorching sun, you’ll probably want to head out November time - though be aware that most cities see average temperatures in excess of 30°C in January, and interior places such as Alice Springs won’t bat an eyelid at thermometres reading 40°C.

The tropical north also enjoys more rain in summer: Darwin and Cairns in particular experience deluges at the beginning of the year, compared to just a millimetre or two in July. Southern cities such as Melbourne and Adelaide see more rain during their cooler months from June to August, so will seem more ‘normal’ to European visitors (although temperatures will still be a more balmy 8-16°C).
