Adelaide - City Guide

Adelaide

Located on the southern coastline of Australia is the leafy city of Adelaide, a relaxed, laid-back place with gorgeous sandy beaches and an attractive centre. There are a number of historic buildings situated in the CBD, with North Terrace Adelaide’s cultural hub, and home to the city art collections and finest properties.

Known as the 20-minute city - the centre is fairly small making it really easy to get around - despite its size, the city is crammed with parks, cafes and restaurants, making this a lively place to be.

Adelaide also boasts a really high standard of living, with over 780 hectares of parkland and 370 hectares of recreational area, making this a green and lush place to live, with excellent sporting and leisure facilities. Continually making the top 25 cities in the world of the Mercer Quality of Life Survey, public transport is regular and affordable and the cost of living low.

Located on the banks of the Torrens River, Adelaide has a certain rural charm, offering residents a more intimate cityscape than many other Australian towns, yet still being close to the outback, coastline, hills and vineyards - not to mention its location at the end of the Great Ocean Road. Kangaroo Island is also just off mainland.

Although many of Australia’s cities claim to be home to some of the country’s finest beaches, Adelaide has a good reason to claim this honour. Within 20 minutes of the city centre you can find sugar-white beaches and azure waters, where visitors can swim with dolphins, explore the lively suburb of Glenelg, visit the Seahorse Farm or just lazy on the sand.

Drive 30 minutes out of town and you’ll reach Adelaide’s Hills, home to wildlife sanctuaries, botanic gardens, and world-renowned vineyards. The Yurrebilla Trail will take you between the hill’s many parklands, linking Belair and Athelstone, with Cleland, Hornsell Gully, Morialta and Black Hill parks situated in between. After your exertions why not stop with one of the 200 grape growers in the area? There are 30 cellars and more than 70 labels represented in this stretch of landscape, making this one of Australia’s most prestigious wine-growing regions.

With excellent shopping, fine dining and plenty of entertainment options (cinema, theatre, sports and festivals to name but a few) Adelaide really is an excellent option for relocators.
