B&Bs and Lodges
Typically rural, a lodge is generally set among beautiful wilderness, surrounded by trees and wildlife, but with an excellent wine list and top-notch cuisine. An Aussie lodge is the equivalent of a country house hotel in the UK – and while you’re more likely to find breezy verandahs than Georgian plasterwork, there are some similarities to the concept: bags of heritage character, conviviality, roaring log fires (where necessary), and plenty of good, restorative pampering. A favourite option in mountain, wine-growing and rainforest regions.

Rural areas boast luxurious lodges, like Lilianfels in the Blue Mountains of NSW
Some excellent examples include Lillianfels in the Blue Mountains and Cradle Mountain Lodge in Tasmania, or Merribrook in WA’s Margaret River.
