After gaining column inches all over the world in January when it launched its search for an “Island Caretaker”, Tourism Queensland have announced the shortlist of fifty candidates still in the running for “the best job in the world.â€?
The fifty, picked from over 34,000, will now be whittled down to ten with a further wildcard place being decided by public vote.
The USA and Australia each have six candidates in the top fifty, but Canada heads the list with seven applicants, three of whom are are the top ten! The final eleven who will be interviewed in Australia will be announced in May.
Just for fun!
Embrace Australia couldn’t resist checking out a few of the applications and can testify the high standard, and also the additiveness of viewing! While not endorsing any candidates we think that:
- High School Musical would vote for the all singing and dancing Mitchell from Canada
- Miss Money Penny would most definately opt for the sultry Julia from Russia
- John Noakes may well plump for the high octane Ben from the UK
- The Cheeky Girls would lead the female support for the witty George from Ireland
- Benny Hill may well fancy David from Australia
- The NME and the whole of Manchester would back whole heartedly an alternative Holly from the UK
- Ron Burgundy would be proud of Steven from the USA
- Sponge Bob would squeeze dry for Marcella from Canada
- Ruby Wax would be in stitches for Adeline from the USA
- While Chris Bonington would trek to the South pole to vote for Chris from Australia

A big congratulations to all fifty applicants from Embrace Australia!
