Sexy Kylie ad tops the cult charts

Leaonne Hall | Wednesday, January 28th, 2009 at 4:30 pm

Kylie Minogue’s provocative Agent Provocateur lingerie ad has been been voted the greatest cult cinema advert of all time.

The ad sees Kylie writhing on a mechanised rodeo bull to “prove” that Agent Provocateur makes the most erotic underwear.

The raunchy 90-second commercial, called “Proof”, was released in 2001, and caused quite a stir – at the end of the advert Kylie challenges men in the cinema audience to stand up, following her erotic performance on the bucking bronco.

Director of Proof, Steve Reeve, from production company Another Film Company, said the Kylie advert had been made specifically for cinema, and had been designed to be “as confident as the product”.

Competition included the Orange Film Board franchise of ads, in which Patrick Swayze was laughed out the office by Mr Dresden and friends, Carling Black Label’s football-saving German soldier in “Dambusters” and Guinness’s “Surfer”.

The poll which saw the Proof ad hit the top spot, has been conducted by Digital Cinema Media, who for the last eight weeks have been searching for the public’s favourite cinema ad.

“Cinema is about engaging and entertaining the audience and this ad pulls off both elements perfectly in a fun and cheeky way,” said Fleur Castell, marketing and research controller at cinema ad company Digital Cinema Media.

Other ads that made it into the top 10 included the iconic Diet Coke break ad, where three women oogled a toned and taned workman, the 1997′s “Bullitt” ad  which featured scenes from the Steve McQueen movie of the same name.

The top 10 cinema ads were:

1. Agent Provocateur – “Proof” (2001)

2. Orange Gold Spots franchise (2002)

3. Maxell Tapes – “Break the Sound Barrier” (1982)

4. Dunlop Tyres – “Tested for the Unexpected” (1993)

5. Ford Puma – “Bullitt” (1997)

6. Diet Coke – “Break” (1994)

7. Bacardi – “If” (1991)

8. Guinness – “Surfer” (1999)

9. Carling Black Label – “Dambusters” (1990)

10. Sony Bravia – “Balls” (2005)
