The famous Glastonbury Pyramid Stage.
Prince Charles showed that he’s a chip off the old block when he asked an Australian worker at Glastonbury if he was an illegal immigrant.
Showing the kind of tact that has made his father infamous, Prince Charles asked the Aussie if he had a permit to work over here.
Glastonbury is the UKs most famous music festival and has attracted some top names in the music industry in the past such as U2, David Bowie, Madonna and Coldplay. This year is no exception with a line-up that includes Gorillaz, Snoop Dogg, Vampire Weekend and Australia’s most famous export – Rolf Harris.
Prince Charles was touring the site in Somerset on Thursday when the young Australian approached him and introduced himself as “Nick from Australia.” adding; “I’m working at the festival.” The Prince then chipped in: “I would never have guessed. I hope you have a permit to work over here.” Producing a double whammy that his father would have been proud of.
Later Nick told the media that he had initially been shocked by the question but later saw the funny side: “The prince is a top bloke. I thought it was funny. For a second I thought he was going to lock me in the tower.”
Glastonbury is such an iconic event that fans now travel from all over the world just to be there. The festival officially starts this evening (Friday) but many fans arrived on Wednesday, keen to bag the best spots for their tents. Officials had decided to open the grounds two days early in order to alleviate congestion on local roads.
In the past the atrocious weather has seen the site become a bit of a mudbath, with wellies being an essential item to pack. But the forecast for the south of the UK this weekend is set to be warm and sunny – perfect festival weather!
