Mike Hawkins | Monday, January 12th, 2009 at 10:58 pm

Do you enjoy the sun, sea, sand and exploring exotic places? Fancy snorkeling, swimming, mingling with locals and getting paid for it? If you’re also good in front of the camera and fancy yourself as an Internet blogger then why not apply for the “best job in the world?”

Your new office....

Your new office....

In a stroke of marketing genius, Tourism Queensland are searching for one lucky individual to live on Hamilton island for a six month contract for which they’ll be paid $150,000, get free flights to and from the island and did we mention free accommodation?

Desley Boyle, Queensland’s Tourism minister, said “We have one of the most amazing destinations in the world and as Queenslanders we are fortunate to have it all on our doorstep.”

“We want to open our doors to the world and invite one lucky person to come and live the Queensland lifestyle themselves for six months and then tell the rest of the world about their experiences.”

The job will entail exploring the islands of the Barrier Reef, swimming, snorkeling, swimming, getting to know the locals; basically living a tropical lifestyle for six months and reporting your experiences back to the rest of the world.

If you fancy the job, you need to upload a video application to www.islandreefjob.com which should be no more than sixty seconds and no be received no later that the 22nd of February.

Eleven candidates will be shortlisted, one of which will be voted for by users of the website. All those shortlisted will be flown to a reef isle for final interviews, so even if you don’t fancy your chances of landing the job you could still get a free trip! Still let’s not be defeatist before we start.

The Location

Hamilton Island is the largest inhabited Whitsunday Island and is located between the Queensland coast and the Great Barrier Reef.

The Island enjoys average temperatures of 27.4°C (81F) with January temperatures averaging 31°C in January. The job starts in the depths of the Australian winter but don’t worry local temperatures still average around 22°C!

If you want to do a little more research you can check out the island’s website, Hamilton Island and the Queensland tourist board.
