More UK families are heading to Australia
More British people are immigrating to Australia than ever before, according to official government statistics.
A total of 395,000 people left the UK in 2008 compared to 318,000 in 2007. The most popular destinations for Brits immigrating are Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Spain and France.
A quarter of the Australian population were now born abroad and British expats make up a significant number of that, it’s estimated that 1,153,264 British born citizens now live in Australia.
Expats who have immigrated to Australia give the relaxed lifestyle and the weather as two of their reasons for moving there.
It is now thought that 1 in 12 Britons live abroad and that figure is set to get higher. And who can blame them? Australia is increasingly becoming a popular destination for young families and workers as it is one of the few countries to have weathered the global recession and it still provides plenty of employment opportunities for those with the relevant skills and qualifications. With British graduates now facing unemployment, the numbers of people quitting Britain to immigrate to Australia are getting ever younger.
