Family Visas
If you are looking to emigrate to Australia, one of your options is to look at securing a family visa. You can also apply for a sponsored family visa.
There are a number of options for fiancés, partners, children, parents and other family members of Australian citizens and/or permanent residents, with a range of visa options available as follows:
Partner visas
Partners of Australian citizens, permanent residents or eligible New Zealand citizens may enter and/or to remain permanently in Australia.
If you are currently:
- intending to get married
- married (de jure) partners
- de facto partners
- interdependent partners (including those in a same-sex relationship)
Then you may be eligible to enter on a Partner Visa.
Parent visas
Parents may be able to migrate to Australia if they have a child in Australia who is an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen.
Child visas
Dependent children, orphaned relatives or adopted children of an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen may enter the country on a Child Visa.
Other Family
There are grounds by which you can enter via other family members. Aged dependent relatives, remaining relatives and carers of Australian citizens, permanent residents and eligible New Zealand citizens may apply for visas to come to Australia permanently based on the familial relationship.

Sponsored Family Visitor visa
This visa allows you to visit Australia once, for a stay of either three or six months, and in some cases up to 12 months. On this visa you visit family and/or friends, engage in tourist activities or study for up to three months.
You will have to undergo a medical health check and it is advised that you take health insurance whilst in Australia. You’ll also need to be able to prove that you have enough financies to support you during your stay and some character references may be followed up.
How do I apply for it?
You’ll need to fill out an application form and then forward it onto your sponsors who will fill out their end. The sponsor then forwards it onto the Australian Immigration Department along with the visa fee.
How much does it cost?
The current fee is around £55 but this is subject to currency fluctuations and price increases.
Visit the Australian Immigration Department’s website to find out more about the Australian Sponsored Family Visa.
