Metallica head Down Under for their rock tour.
Heavy rock legends Metallica have confirmed that they will be travelling to Australia after kicking off their World Magnetic Tour in New Zealand in October.
The band update their website today after speculation that a visit may be on the cards, the site excitedly proclaimed: “We know, we know, it has been WAY too long since we visited this part of the world, but we’re here to tell you that it is game on!!!”
The tour kicks off in New Zealand on October 13 before heading Down Under to Brisbane on October 18. From there they will play Perth on October 22, Sydney on November 10, Adelaide on November 15 and finally Melbourne on November 18.
Fans of the band have been second-guessing Metallica’s visit to Australia after drummer Lars Ulrich let slip at a press conference in Columbia that the band would be playing in parts of Australia after their New Zealand gig. Since then speculation has been rife as to where and when they would play.
Metallica haven’t travelled to Australia since 2004 when they did their world tour, back then the band commented on how much they enjoyed visiting Australia and how they saw it as a break from their heavy schedule. Bassist Robert Trujillo told the Australian Associated Press at the time; “Not only do we play these huge stadiums with 40,000 people, but we also capture the vibe of the local surfing community, and I really like that.”
Tickets to see the band play live go on sale on May 13.
