Catch the unusual and bizarre at the Melbourne Fringe Festival.
The Edinburgh Fringe may be over but if you’re travelling to Australia this autumn then don’t miss the Melbourne Fringe Festival happening over September and October.
The Melbourne Fringe has been running since 1982 and has showcased at least 50,000 artists across hundreds of venues around Melbourne to audiences that topped 500,000 in some years! It celebrates the city of Melbourne by promoting independent arts in the Victoria region.
Groundbreaking performances and festival showcases wow audiences from all over the world, celebrating the bizarre, humorous, brave, talented, mystical and stunning talents from local artists.
Many of the events are ticketed but an equal amount are free and such are the celebrations that just as in Edinburgh, on every street corner you’ll find an entertainer and in every bar there will be a mixture of characters that are either performing at the Festival or just there for the entertainment.
Among the acts this year is the stunning performance ‘Word They Make With Their Mouths’, voted the People’s Choice for 2010; the Women’s Circus will be presenting a series of breathtaking routines simply called “circus with a twist”; Carl Barron will be doing his hilarious stand-up routine and fresh from live performances in Edinburgh is musician Benn Bennett. These and many more can be seen at the Melbourne Fringe.
So don’t miss your chance to see some talented artists and catch the vibe and atmosphere of a Festival to rival that of Edinburgh! The fun kicks off on the 22nd of September and lasts until the 10th of October. Sign up now for tickets and news on the Melbourne Fringe website.
