Twenty lifesize kangaroo statues will be descending on London

Between Wednesday 24th and 30th June 20 life-size kangaroo statues will be descending on London.

Each will boast its own unique design, with the roos created by a mix of celebrities, students, artists and sponsors.

Known as the Kangaroo Island Hunt roos, they will be located at landmarks throughout central London, and the public will be invited to find the roos in return for winning a trip to Kangaroo Island!

The 20 kangaroo designs have come from various celebs, including model Elle Macpherson, GMTV presenter Richard Arnold and South Australian artists Peter Coad and Emma Hack.

At the end of the promotion the kangaroos will be auctioned off for charity.

The event is designed to promote the wildlfie haven of Kangaroo Island and has been organised by the Government of South Australia in conjunction with the South Australian Tourism Commission, Qantas Airways and Flight Centre UK.

The promotion is part of a series of events which will come under the umbrella of Britain’s first week-long “G’Day UK” initiative will will be taking place between the 24th and 30th of June.

If you would like to be in with a chance of winning, all you have to do is spot 4 escaped roos and log on to www.southaustralia.com to validate their sighting.

You will then be entered into the prize draw to win the holiday in the Australian Galapagos.

But there’s more… every entrant will be a winner as each entry will vouchers that can be spent at any one of 100 Flight Centre stores across the UK!

So, get your roo spotting head on… good luck!

Before racing off to Kangaroo Island, which is a fascinating place, please do a little research into what is happening to kangaroos (the national symbol) in Australia today. These amazing, unique and gentle animals are cruelly hunted, their joeys are stomped on or beaten to death, thousands of kangaroos have recently been killed in the national capital because they were in the way of housing and roads (although spurious ‘science’ was used to say that they ‘threatened’ endangered species. How can a kangaroo do more damage than a bulldozer?), they are constantly referred to as ‘pests’, and they are now going to be sold to China as meat!
How dare the tourism authorities be so hypocritical? Australia needs to stop ‘managing’ and ‘controlling’ its native animals into extinction, and learn how live with them and treat them with respect and compassion. before it earns the right to use them as an advertisement.
