The stunning Gold Coast proves irresistable for the Japanese Tourist Industry
The Gold Coast of Australia has always been a popular destination for both Australians and overseas tourists alike. Who could not be tempted by the warm golden sands and spectacular coastline of this, aptly named, Australia’s playground?
Now it seems that the beauties of the Australian Gold Coast have come to the attention of the Japanese who have chosen the city as host for one of the most important trade mission events in the country’s Travel Industry.
The Japan Australian Mission (JAM) which has been running since 1992 aims to promote tourism between the two countries. It is a hugely popular event and will be held in Australia for the first time.
Japan continues to be an important part of Australia’s tourist market, despite the downturn in recent years largely due to the H1N1 virus and the global recession which has affected other areas of the Australian Tourist Industry.
Now Australia hopes to able to rotate the downshift and entice the Japanese Travel Market back top Australia. It’s a move that could pump vital millions into the Travel Industry which has fared badly due to the global economic situation. Australian Tourism Managing Director Andrew McEvoy claims the Japan Travel Market is worth around $1.4 billion each year and he is confident that the tourist industry can build itself back up again: “Now that consumers are looking to travel again this year we are starting to see some green shoots that will help our recovery efforts in the market.”
“The mission of Japanese travel wholesalers will be vital for strengthening links with Australian tourism products such as accommodation providers, tours and attractions as well as the chance to experience the destination first hand.”
The Gold Coast Tourism Chairman Paul Donovan is equally delighted to welcome the Japanese Tourist Industry to the Coast’s golden shores. Around 10 million visitors flock to the Gold Coast each year making it one of Australia’s hottest destinations.
