The DIAC announce changes for GSM visa applicants.
The Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) have made changes to the General Skilled Migration criteria that will come into force on the 1st January 2010.
All applicants for Australian visa subclasses 487, 885 and 886 must now have a skills assessment prior to making their application. Should applicants of these visa subclasses also be nominating a trade occupation then they will also be required to undertake a Job Ready Test as part of their skills assessment.
For those wondering what a Job Ready Test is, there really isn’t much information about it on official websites as yet, the Australian Department of Education and Employment website merely states that more information will be available in the new year.
Further changes affect offshore GSM applicants. All applicants who are nominating a trade occupation will not now be able to apply for a GSM visa based on meeting the Australian study requirement, they will instead have to satisfy the work experience requirement of 12 months relevant work experience within the past 24 months.
English language requirements have also become stricter for all GSM applicants nominating a trade occupation and for GSM visa subclasses 475 and 487. They will now have to meet the requirement of 6 in all the four categories of the IELTS test.
For those taking Vetassess skills assessments, they will not have to show a qualification that is relevant to their nominated occupation and have spent a years work experience in a relevant occupation. More information about the changes to the Vetassess skills assessments can be found on the Vetassess website.
More information about all of these changes can be found on the DIAC website.
