There has been a 25% drop in the number of temporary skilled migrants travelling to Australia
While the global economic crisis may not have impacted as badly on Australia as it has one the rest of the world, it has affected migration levels.
According to The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Australia has seen a 25% decline in the number of temporary skilled migrants visiting the country in the first four months of 2009.
In a report carried out by OECD, the economic downturn is affecting immigrants more than native-born workers.
Immigrants have been among the first to lose their jobs, with unemployment levels among migrants almost doubling in some countries.
While migration policies in Australia have got tougher in the first half of 2009, Australia still remains a firm favourite with expats.
