DIAC Announce Australian Visa Application Fee Rises

Lisa Valentine | Wednesday, June 9th, 2010 at 9:31 am

Visa Application charges are on the rise.

Visa Application charges are on the rise.

The Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship has announced its annual review of Australian visa application charges with a steep hike in fees.

In some cases the increase is just over 10%. With the Australian dollar strong compared to other currencies, this increase is likely to hit applicants hard.

For a Working Holiday Visa the application fee has risen from $230 to $235. For Professional/Skilled Migrants the application fee has rise from $2,525 to $2,575, but by far the biggest increase will hit those applying for a contributory parent visa. The charge for this has risen from $34,330 to $37,965.

The increase in the second instalment is a huge $3635 per parent, which is a 10.5% increase. If you have two applicants, well you don’t need me to tell you that this is a very steep increase.

However these price rises don’t come into effect until the 1st of July, so there are many reasons to send your Australian visa application now. Don’t forget too that the DIAC have also announced the new SOL will also come into effect next month. The earlier you get your applications in, the better.
