Brits Flock to NSW and Victoria

Sydney is a popular place for Brits emigrating to Australia.

Sydney is a popular place for Brits emigrating to Australia.

New South Wales and Victoria are the states most people move to when immigrating to Australia, according to statistics released by the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC).

In 2008-09 69,456 skilled migrants emigrated to Australia and of that figure around 55 per cent settled in NSW and Victoria. 19,071 opted for NSW and 18,630 chose Victoria. Again the highest number of skilled migrants moving to Australia were the British almost head to head with New Zealand, whilst figures are up on migrant workers from India, China and South Africa.

New South Wales is of course, home state to Australia’s capital city Sydney, which is a popular choice for Brits emigrating to Australia. With it’s unique blend of exciting city life coupled with stretches of golden sandy beaches it’s not hard to see why so many people want to move there.

New South Wales also has the majestic Snowy Mountains; North Coast, the surfer’s paradise and the great outback, home to the Australian aboriginals and one of the most spectacular places on earth.

Victoria is of course home state of the city of Melbourne. A classical, contemporary city full of creative spirit and flair. Whether your thing is fashion or the arts you’ll find your niche in this very cosmopolitan city. And being cheaper than Sydney for accommodation, it’s also another reason why it’s so popular with the Brits moving to Australia.

Although Victoria has so much more to offer, such as it’s first class wineries, the Yarra Valley, the Great Ocean Road, Philip Island and more. It’s a green, lushious and plentiful state and would certainly make our top ten of places to live!
