The Ashes is ready for a new era - without hero Andrew Flintoff.
Do you remember that moment, that very special moment when England played the game of their lives and won the final test of the 2009 Ashes - snatching victory from the Australians?
Were you part of the crowd who cheered and went wild as England lifted the famous Ashes urn above their heads? Were you there when the crowd gave a standing ovation to an emotional Freddie Flintoff as he retired from world cricket following the Ashes win? Were you one of the jubilant crowd who partied in London until the wee small hours?
Congratulations if you were because you were a part of history that day. And if you want to take part in history this year – perhaps another England win? – then now is the time to book those flights to Australia to catch a world class sporting event Down Under. This year’s England v Australia Ashes match is to take place in Australian cities from November 2010 to January 2011, so you have lots of time to plan your trip!
The first stage is set to be played at the Gabba in Brisbane, one of Australia’s sunniest cities and the perfect play to catch the opening moments of the series as well as a few rays. In between the cricket you can stroll along the golden sandy beaches or do a spot of kayaking along the river. If you want something a little more sporty then the Gold Coast is just around the corner. Aptly named Australia’s playground the Gold Coast offers some of the best surfing experiences as well as a vast array of other watersports to get your adrenalin pumping.
The Adelaide Oval is our next stop on the Ashes tour. Adelaide is a historical and lively city full of museums, parks and superb restaurants. You can do a spot of winetasting at one of the vineyards just outside the city centre or hop on over to Kangaroo Island and meet some of the wildlife!
Perth signals the halfway mark in the series. It was here, in 2006 that Australia claimed victory over England, but will the sporting history books read differently for 2009? Perth boasts some truly stunning beaches and with the laid-back vibe of the city you’ll find all your stresses simply floating away as you relax on the beach with an ice-cold beer thinking of the folks back home in the UK battling with the winter weather.
Boxing Day in Melbourne – what could be better? Well how about watching the cricket in the spectacular MCG stadium? The first ever Test match was played here, the 1992 World Cup final, the 1956 Olympic Games, the 2006 Commonwealth Games – it is here where history is written and you could be part of it! Lord’s and Wembley may be among the greatest sporting arenas in the world but if it’s drama and emotion you want – the MCG is the place to be!
And then of course there’s the final showdown. Sydney, 3-7 January 2011. You could be here to watch in person as the winning team lifts that famous urn high in the air to the roar of the crowd. Will your roars be among them? Will you be able to say, when this day is talked about, “I was there”? There are few places more stunning to watch a historical cricket match than Sydney. Imagine partying during the small hours underneath the lights of the Harbour Bridge, or how about a celebratory midnight barbeque on Bondi Beach?
So if you want to be part of the action this coming winter (summer in Australia!) then start planning your trip to Australia now and don’t just read about historical sporting events – be a part of it!

I wonder who will win when Australian and England face off in November.
