Two Australian tourists tempt fate by acting as croc bait.
These two tourists are tempting fate as they ride buckaroo style on a crocodile trap at Kakadu National Park.
The astonished visitor who took this photo said he was astonished to see the two men climbing around the banks to reach the trap. He watched amazed as they then climbed onto the back and posed for photos whilst lapping up the attention they received from a handful of travellers watching from a safe distance.
The two ‘drongos’ were joking and laughing as fellow tourist Brent Hobes took this picture of them. “I was quite surprised” he stated. “I can’t believe they would play on a crocodile trap.” He also said how he hoped the trap was empty. Fortunately for them, it was.
However as Park Ranger Garry Lindner pointed out; “Crocs are attracted to the bait in the traps, so it is extremely dangerous to fool around like this,” he said. “Its irresponsible to assume there are no crocs there’s crocs can move in at any time they may move in as the waterholes downstream dry out.”
He also warned that traps in the same location at Jim Jim Falls had managed to catch some fairly large saltwater crocs in the last three months.
If the tourists had been caught, they could have faced fines of more than $3000 as it is illegal for anyone to interfere with crocodile traps.Â
There have been a spate of similar stupid stunts pulled in Darwin and Queensland earlier in the year, despite fatal crocodile attacks there and more astonishingly, idiots have been found to be releasing crocs from traps set in Darwin Harbour.
