Australian students to protest for student immigrant rights.
Thousands of foreign and local students in Australia are planning to march in Sydney next month in protest at the way the Australian Government fails to protect students against fraudulent Australian Immigration companies and faults in the education system.
The students will march on the 2 September from the University of Sydney and will finish outside Parliament House.
The government, along with the National Union of Students, have already expressed concern about the number of immigrants using the Australian student visa system to get into the country, before applying to become permanent residents.
The NUS say that international students not only suffer attacks, but they have to put up with less rights in the workplace and more expensive accommodation. The NUS are demanding that the government implement reforms to make education fair for international students.
Recent news coverage has revealed that international students are being exploited in the workplace and conned by sham deals with bogus Australian Immigration agencies.
Michael Wesley, the executive director of the Lowy Institute has himself called on the government to address the inequality of treatment and entitlements between local and international students.
The Federal Government have announced a full review of laws and regulations that govern the international student sector and a full report by former Liberal MP Bruce Baird is due in November. Meanwhile the NUS will continue to exert pressure on the government and to keep the plight of international students in the news.
