Australian Immigration Policy Changes Begins

The DIAC's promised 1st of July changes begin.

The DIAC's promised 1st of July changes begin.

Changes to Australian student visa applications will come into force tomorrow morning along with the implementation of the new Skilled Occupations List.

From tomorrow all student visa applications from the Australian Capital Territory and New South Wales will be processed at the Sydney Student Onshore Processing Centre. Students applying from these territories are advised to use the Sydney Processing Centre for any enquiries or to lodge paper applications. The address can be found on this DIAC link. Student visa applications can also be processed online from the DIAC website.

This change affects all new applications as well as old ones. So if your application has not yet been finalised, it will be transferred to the Sydney Processing Centre.

For students applying from Perth and Adelaide, their applications will still be processed by their state onshore student Processing Centres.

Also from tomorrow morning the SOL will replace the CSL and will now be the basis on which skills and occupations are rated.  The old SOL was based on Australian Standard Classification of Occupations, this has now also been changed and applicants are advised that the new SOL will be based upon the Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations. That means that new applicants will now have their nominated skilled occupation assessed by ANZSCO.

For those applicants who have already been assessed under the old ASCO, they may still have their occupation assessed under the old scheme or they may have to resubmit their visa application. Read the DIACs guidelines on transferring from ASCO to ANZSCO.
