The 2009 Harris Poll for the top 15 international vacation destinations for Americans ranks Australia as the world’s number one country.
Australia has been voted as the number one destination since 1997 but was dethroned last year by Italy; the 2009 poll marks a return to the top in the eyes of Americans.
The poll asks the question assuming that cost is not a factor.
Italy ranks second while Great Britain is third.
“We are thrilled that Australia continues to rank number one among Americans,” says Michelle Gysberts, Vice President of the Americas, Tourism Australia. “Over the last several months we have seen fares that are as much as 40 percent less than they were a year ago, meaning Americans can now act on their desires to visit Australia.”

I was in Australia in February 2008; I am doing my best to convince hubby to move there. I loved it so much, I never wanted to leave. I WILL get back there…
